Reference & Local History Librarian (Full-Time), Belmont Public Library, MA

The Belmont Public Library is seeking qualified candidates to join their team as the new Reference & Local History Librarian. The purpose of this position is to provide professional reference and informational services to library patrons while under the general supervision of the Coordinator of Reference & Public Services. This position also has a particular focus on local history.

The Reference & Local History Librarian receives and evaluates requests for information, maintains knowledge of reference materials, research methods online databases and internet use. This position oversees acquisition and maintenance of historical materials, works to create programs and services in support of local history research and community celebration. The Reference & Local History Librarian is responsible for managing our local history collection with major focuses on management of digitization projects, Belmont author collection, microfilm collection and transformation of balcony storage area, ongoing process of re-organizing the local history collections for public enjoyment.

Participates in the promotion of programs and library services via flyers, bookmarks, handouts, and posters, both in print and digital format. This position assists in developing library programs and events and represents the library to various organizations and groups.

Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school with one year of reference and public library experience and knowledge of principles and practices of library work and use of library resources and information technology is required.

This is a full time 35 hour per week position covered under a collective bargaining agreement with the Belmont Librarian’s Association. The starting hourly rate is $30.70 and qualifies for the Town’s comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental and life insurance, paid vacation, sick, personal and holiday leave.
