The Winthrop Group has an immediate opening for a Processing Archivist to process the professional papers of a social scientist in Cambridge, Massachusetts.. Work will take place on-site in Cambridge, and the archivist will report to and be supported by a Senior Archivist. This is a part-time, 6-month term position, for a total of 64 days (approximately two to three days per week). While part-time, the Assistant Archivist will be a Winthrop employee and eligible for workers’ compensation and unemployment insurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Survey collections and develop a prioritized processing plan
- Arrange and describe selected records, including paper and audiovisual formats
- Create a searchable finding aid with detailed container list
- Rehouse collection and ensure long-term preservation of archival material in all formats
- Weed duplicate or non-archival material
- Identify and prepare records for digitization by an in-house technician and/or outside vendor
- Monitor progress to ensure timely and efficient processing
- Provide regular updates to client liaison
- Work collaboratively with client liaison, staff, and Winthrop Senior Archivist
Required Qualifications
- MLIS or MA in history with archival management certificate and/or experience
- Minimum of two years of work in an archival setting with processing experience
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity working with personal research records
- Records management experience
- Interest and/or experience in psychology
Compensation
- Part-time hourly rate: $28.00 – $32.00, commensurate with experience
Work Environment
Work will take place on-site at a private home where collections are located. The incumbent will work occasionally with a Senior Archivist and must be comfortable working alone much of the time. Winthrop archivists must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster and abide by all client policies and public health guidelines relating to the pandemic.
