Collaborate with members of the Instructional Services Team and departmental faculty in designing, teaching, and promoting information literacy and research skills embodied in the core curriculum to enable first-year students to become competent, independent, and ethical information seekers and users; ease the transition from high school, reaffirm the University’s commitment to student-centered learning, and support the institution’s effort to increase student persistence and retention rates. Participate in a dynamic information literacy instruction program that develops autonomous learners, facilitates lifelong learning, and promotes core curriculum learning outcomes, including information literacy and critical thinking. Perform all aspects of client-based reference, research, and information services.
Position Duties
- Collaborate with the IS Team and departmental faculty in designing, implementing, and assessing multi-faceted instructional services for the Pace community, including curricular-based instruction, drop-in workshops and seminars, interactive Web-based tutorials, library orientation tours, on-the-road presentations, and other forms of community outreach; share responsibility for scheduling functions and activities conducted by the Instructional Services Division.
- Collaborate with university departments and service units specifically targeting first-year students, including the UNV101 program and Office for Student Engagement; serve as principal library contact and resource for instructors and program facilitators of first-year students; participate actively on cross-functional teams and committees developing freshmen initiatives to foster student engagement and academic success; serve as liaison to departments such as the Writing Center, Honors Program, Learning Commons tutoring and academic advising services.
- Promote the use of research tutorials to first-year students and faculty teaching first-year students; develop and conduct workshops that help strengthen the information literacy skills of faculty and instructors working with first-year students; develop innovative outreach programs to first-year students.
- Lead the outreach efforts of the I.S. Team to the ENG 110 and ENG 120 faculty; facilitate in-person and online English 110 and 120 library instruction classes, and participate in freshmen learning communities as appropriate. Coordinate and provide outreach to appropriate community groups and local “feeder” high schools; coordinate support of Pace High School students and teachers through periodic on-site or online information literacy research sessions.
- Develop instructional and training materials in print and interactive web-based and multimedia formats. Create, edit, and update web pages and presentations that foster interactivity and provide dynamic, current information and access to library collections. Prepare and disseminate promotional literature about library resources and services.
- Perform all aspects of client-based reference and research services, including shared reference desk coverage, live chat reference, extended research consultations, collection development including weeding of the circulating collection, web page development, and serving as “embedded librarian” in the University’s course management system per faculty request; work occasional evening/weekend shifts and rotate between New York City campus locations as necessary.
- Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Position Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in and aptitude for both in-person and online information literacy instruction.
- Experience providing Instruction and reference and research services in an academic library.
- Experience working in higher education.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Initiative, flexibility, and the ability to creatively adapt to an evolving organizational environment.
- Strong commitment to excellence in service and a demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
