The Belmont Public Library is seeking a friendly and enthusiastic Children’s Librarian to join our Children’s Room team. Candidates must be committed to providing a high level of public service, be comfortable working in a busy environment, and enjoy working with children of all ages. This position has been made available by an internal promotion. 

The position will be working at a public service desk that offers both circulation and reference services simultaneously. The Children’s Librarian will assist patrons with readers’ advisory and reference questions, present story times, and help with collection development. Other responsibilities include receiving and evaluating requests for information, searching databases and advising readers regarding appropriate material. The Children’s Librarian maintains current knowledge of children’s literature and related library programs and services as well as technology development and general library automation and electronic services provided through the library networks.

This position is part time, 19 hours per week, with a starting hourly rate of $29.25

The schedule for this position is a weekdays, including one weekday evening (Thursday) and also is part of the monthly Sunday rotation. We are also looking to onboard additional Children’s Librarians to support Sunday hours and to serve as call in substitutes.  

Qualifications

Qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school with one year of public library and children’s programming experience. Knowledge of children’s literature, automated library systems, principles and practices of library work and information technology required. Strong customer services skills, experience with children’s programming, and flexibility, excellent communication skills, and a positive attitude are highly desired.
