Description:
The K-8 School librarian will be responsible for administering the library program where the library is the hub of the school ensuring that all students and teachers have equitable access to ideas and resources; will be critical thinkers, lifelong readers, and develop inquiry skills; and work collaboratively with educators to design and implement units of instruction.
Requirements:
Masters of Library and Information Science or Masters of Education
Massachusetts Certification Library -All levels
SEI Endorsement
Preferred Requirements:
3 years working in a school library setting
Experience working in an urban setting
Foreign Language Proficiency
Duties:
- Collaborates with classroom teachers as a partner in the instructional process
- Supports the development of learning experiences that incorporate inquiry learning, information literacies (e.g., research skills), critical thinking, and self-assessment
- Encourages a love of reading and lifelong learning
- Evaluates, promotes, and uses information technologies to support teaching and learning
- Creates and maintains in the school library a teaching and learning environment that is inviting, safe, flexible, and conducive to student learning
- Develops and maintains resources appropriate to the curriculum, students, and instructional strategies of the school community
- Builds and maintains a library collection that reflects the student body, is diverse, meets the interests and needs of all learners, and supports the district’s goals
- Cooperates and networks with other libraries/agencies
- Promotes ethical use of information: copyright, fair use, and intellectual property
- Helps supervise a busy library space, assisting students with resources, technology, and readers’ advisory
- Serves on decision-making teams; presents at meetings
- Stays current in professional practices, educational research; maintains active professional memberships
- Ensures that SLP goals and objectives are aligned with school and district long-range strategic plans
- Ensures equitable physical access to school library facilities by providing barrier-free, universally-designed environments.
Salary: In accordance with the Everett Public Schools Teachers Association Contract.
