The Job Details are as follows:
Core activities
- Serves as OCLC Liaison for external local, national, or international metadata standards & policy groups such as the MARC Advisory Committee (MAC), Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) committees, and ALA groups, among others. Chairs and facilitates meetings where appropriate and distribute minutes to all project team members
- Coordinates information flow from internal OCLC initiatives and liaisons to external local, national, or international metadata standards & policy groups such as ALA Core, NISO, and IFLA Cataloging related sections. Monitors external communication among metadata practitioners in the field and shares pertinent information with internal stakeholders
- Prepares and gives presentations as the OCLC representative or liaison to designated internal and external groups, including preparing necessary presentation materials for meetings. May fill the role of Subject Matter Expert (SME) for complex cataloging/metadata initiatives
- Sets and documents metadata standards and policies for WorldCat and other OCLC databases in conjunction with colleagues. May participate in WorldCat database maintenance activities to further OCLC policies and improve quality
- Provides support for users of WorldCat and associated OCLC systems by answering questions from member libraries
- Provides training and coaching as needed to internal staff members
- Contributes to developing project strategies for metadata engagement determining project changes, undertaking project tasks, and ensuring project deadlines are met as required. Ensuring projects adhere to frameworks and all documentation is maintained appropriately for each project. Assesses project risks and issues and provide solutions where applicable
- Contributes to scholarly reports, articles, and other written public communications such as blogs, newsletters, etc. as appropriate. Identifies publication opportunities for members of engagement team and supports publication process
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4 years of equivalent experience appropriate for this position
- Possess practical and theoretical knowledge of current cataloging standards and practices with a good understanding of data systems, workflows, metadata schemas (MARC and/or Linked Data) with strong knowledge of and experience using OCLC systems and services
- Experience in coordinating and directing projects
- Experience coordinating meetings and communication among project staff, with project consultants and subject matter experts, and/or with project participants
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to author reports and summarize meetings, communicate with internal staff and external library leaders and community members.
- Advanced level knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products, SharePoint and/or Confluence, and virtual meeting technologies (such as WebEx)
- Professional competence, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, experience working in a highly collaborative, team environment, and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Must be well organized with ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and work with others to complete tasks. Initiative-taker and problem-solver working to complete tasks
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Experience
- Master of Library Science or Equivalent degree
- Experience with subject analysis with specific knowledge of subject headings (LCSH and others) and classification systems (Dewey, LC) – ability to become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in use and maintenance of subject schema
