We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Teen Librarian, who is flexible, truly enjoys serving tween and teenage patrons, and has a sense of humor!
The Teen Librarian creates, plans, and executes programs for grades 5-12, assists with technology device sessions, and regularly performs circulation, reference, reader’s advisory, and technical services duties.
This is a unique opportunity for an individual whose commitment will help support the library community who have co-created a 21st century library that merges an historic building built in 1897 with a state-of-the-art addition of 8,700-square foot two-story facility. We seek a librarian who will bring fresh ideas and be excited to utilize this new space to best serve the community of Greenland.
Essential Job Functions
- Assists and directs after school students.
- Teen Room – Collection management – responsible for selection and acquisition of materials with a diverse appeal, cataloging and processing.
- Responsible for upkeep of teen and programming room, including book displays and enrichment activities.
- Promotes all library programs verbally and through newsletters, posters, invites, social media, website and newspapers.
- Maintains youth program statistics.
- Conducts outreach activities.
- Provides technical assistance to patrons including Libby/Overdrive, computers, email and mobile devices.
- Helps maintain the library’s online presence, which includes posting and general maintenance of website and social media accounts.
- Creates monthly and annual reports as required.
- Attends professional meetings and workshops.
- Holds membership in a professional library organization. (NHLA dues paid by the library.)
- Keeps up with current programming trends in libraries.
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- Enthusiasm to work with patrons of all ages, especially young people.
- Commitment to the mission and philosophy of public library service.
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate multiple projects.
- Sound judgment and excellent critical thinking skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with staff, library trustees, elected officials, and community groups with enthusiasm and resourcefulness.
- Excellent technology skills and desire to learn new technologies.
- Knowledge of library computer systems.
- A Bachelor’s degree with relevant public library experience preferred.
- Pre-employment background check required.
This position comprises 32 hours a week, including one evening per week and one Saturday each month. Prorated sick time and vacation leave provided. Health insurance
not included.
Compensation: $20.00/hour
