Western Colorado University invites applications for a collaborative, technology-savvy, and highly motivated Technical Services and Archives Librarian. Reporting to the Director of Library Services, the successful candidate provides vision and direction for the Library’s technical services operations, including the University’s archives and special collections. The Technical Services and Archives Librarian performs and/or oversees all related duties, such as cataloging, metadata, processing, and collection development/management.Duties
- Perform original cataloging of library materials, in any format: create MARC records and update OCLC records to add to the Library’s online catalog.
- Develop policies and procedures for copy cataloging, materials processing, and other technical services operations.
- Perform and/or oversee copy cataloging of library materials for all formats. Collaborate with librarians, faculty, and information technology staff to establish standards and procedures for storing, preserving, and accessing electronic records.
- Manage the University’s archives and special collections; respond to research requests that may use the University’s archives and special collections.
- Demonstrate knowledge of trends in archival and records management, and other related best practices in academic libraries.
- Serve as library liaison to Marmot Library Network; establish policies and procedures for maintaining the library’s catalog, in consultation with library staff.
- Provide reference service and research assistance to students and faculty through in-person consultations, on-line chat, phone, video-conferencing and email.
- Serve on University committees and participate in professional development activities.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Master’s degree in Library Science MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited institution.
Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of current library and archives methods, procedures, and techniques, including preservation trends and applications.
- Professional experience in archives, special collections, or related research organizations, preferably in an academic setting.
- Working knowledge and proficiency with the MARC21 format, RDA, AACR2, LCSH, and LC classification.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a service-oriented, collaborative, collegial, team-based environment; ability to work independently.
- Strong planning, creative problem solving, and analytical skills.
- Experience working with students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with loading MARC records in batch, using tools like MarcEdit.
- Knowledge of records management best practices and records retention schedules.
- Experience training, mentoring, and supervising volunteers, interns, and/or student employees.
