General Summary of Position: The Technical Services Assistant is responsible for processing law library materials and updates to include the creation and maintenance of serials holdings information and data; the copy cataloging and bibliographic data maintenance in accordance with standard library practices; and the performance of related work as required. They will also be expected to follow the university’s best practices to build and/or support student academic success and retention and assist in meeting strategic objectives for persistence and timely graduation of the student population.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED (Name and title of person from whom incumbent receives direction):
Receives direct supervision from the Head of Technical Services and/or the Director/Associate Dean of the Law Library, who provides procedural and technical guidance, assigns work, and reviews performance through observation, reports, and conferences for effectiveness and compliance with established standards, policies and rules.
DIRECT REPORTING STAFF- May supervise, assign work, and exercise functional supervision of other library assistants and student employees.

DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Processes serials orders–check-in, claiming, renewals and invoicing to facilitate use of materials.
- Creates, edits, revises and maintains serials holdings records utilizing automated systems in use by the library.
- Activates, updates and maintains electronic serial resources data.
- Reviews and updates electronic serials web links, performs electronic shelf-checking and assists in resolving access issues by using established procedures.
- Prepares, processes and receives bindery shipments utilizing a proprietary bindery software application.
- Collects and prepares usage statistics for electronic and print serial resources.
- Gathers and compiles monthly and annual statistical reports in order to accurately present the work of the department.
- Catalogs, classifies, and performs bibliographic maintenance for all theses and dissertations, and assists in other cataloging projects utilizing automated systems in use by the library.
- Assists with the planning and implementation of special projects, including inventories, collection weeding, and book re-location.
- Assists in manning the library information desk, to assist students, as required.
- Assists with updating the OCLC (Online Computer Library Center) database to reflect accurate bibliographic and holdings information.
- Assists and instructs users in the operation of microfilm/microfiche readers, reader-printers and/or other equipment.
- Trains, supervises and evaluates student staff.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, paraprofessional experience as a library assistant and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitution below.
