The Ifill College Assistant Director, Student Media & Academic Technology, is seeking a graduate student worker for an opportunity in student-driven media and technology. The position supports the Assistant Director in maintaining the CommLabs which include, two Mac computer classrooms, a design classroom, a Student workroom (CommLab), two video editing suites, and two podcasting rooms and the Student-Driven Media Center (SDMC) that includes, two media editing suites, an internet radio station, and the Alden Trust Video Studio. Interested candidates should have a strong interest and background in media making and the technology skills and tools used to create media.
Primary responsibilities include: (but are not limited to)
- Assisting students in The Ifill College CommLabs with media equipment, (DSLRs, iPads, Mics, etc) production equipment, (Dry Mount press and large format printers) and media making software (Adobe CC)
- Assisting students, faculty, and staff in the Student-Driven Media Center (Including the Alden Trust Video Studio, University facing)
- Supervising Lab Agents (student workers)
- Running lab orientations and other in class demos as necessary
- Assisting the Assistant Director on lab operations projects
- Maintaining media equipment inventory
- Assisting with equipment check out and point of use instruction
- Maintaining the CommLab website (WordPress)
- Creating signage for the labs and equipment
A student who will be successful in this position will:
- Have an intermediate level of proficiency in the Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Audition, Premiere Pro, Photoshop
- Know how to do basic troubleshooting of media equipment
- Be comfortable with Mac computers and their OS
- Be a quick learner to new software and be comfortable troubleshooting technology with a student or faculty member
- Be confident in presenting in a classroom setting
- Be comfortable supporting a diverse group of end-users
- Have strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask effectively
- Base level proficiency with databasing
- Proficiency in scheduling and calendar management.
This position is a year long (2 semester) appointment at 15hrs/week with a strong preference to continue through summer and return the following academic year.
