Title: Access Services Evening Supervisor
Full Time (R-202200445)
Job Summary
As sole staff member on duty at the library’s central location, responsible for all aspects of access services in the evenings, including staffing, circulation services, facilities and security when the Access Services Manager is not present. Working hours during the semester are generally 5:00pm – 1:00am (Sundays through Thursdays). Hours may shift during certain times of the year depending on the hours the Library is open.
Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College’s efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.
Essential Functions
Direct Customer Service (60%)
- Provide direct service at the circulation desk in accordance with service standards.
- Interpret citations; check library holdings.
- Check materials in and out.
- Collect fines and fees.
- Answer questions and provide information, directions, and referrals.
- Resolve service problems, issues and questions.
- Sort and reshelve materials.
- Monitor equipment; fix minor problems.
- Maintain effective communications with staff throughout the libraries.
- Maintain a basic knowledge of related services (e.g., reference, interlibrary loan, acquisitions, cataloging, branches).
- Contribute effectively to teamwork, communication, problem solving and customer service.
- Participate in meetings, planning sessions, and committees.
- Provide back-up assistance for all other circulation functions.
- Perform related duties as required.
Operations and Supervision (40%)
- Manage services, operations, facilities and security in Neilson Library during nighttime hours.
- Train and supervise student workers; address scheduling problems, help develop semester student schedules and ensure adequate staffing.
- Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the libraries’ online circulation system.
- Develop a thorough knowledge of the physical facility, equipment and collections.
- Make decisions or take action in situations requiring immediate response.
- Address policy questions, making exceptions as warranted.
- Oversee safety and security throughout the building, including closing procedures.
- Confer with Campus Safety and their students as needed.
- Keep daytime staff well informed about ongoing issues, problems and concerns.
- In collaboration with Access Services Librarian, oversee Five College delivery service; coordinate daily processing of incoming and outgoing materials; resolve problems; communicate with Five College libraries.
- Manage holds and lost/missing/claims returned items; establish schedules and procedures; update library database; regularly clear expired holds; communicate with patrons on related issues.
- Maintain a working knowledge of/handle tasks for reserves, videos and billing.
- Coordinate with student workers to complete assigned tasks such as scanning or capturing library items for electronic reserves or physical reserves support.
- At times you may need to help support branch library locations by providing advice for student workers, have patrons come to Neilson, or send student assistants to those locations when coverage is needed.

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)
Associate’s degree or equivalent; 3 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience; supervisory experience preferred
Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Additional Information
