Information and Technical Services actively supports the teaching and research mission of the Harvard Library by managing monograph, serial and e-resource acquisitions, metadata creation, and metadata management for the Harvard Library.
As a member of the Electronic Resources unit within the Electronic Resources and Serials Section, under the supervision of the Manager, E-Resources, the incumbent will actively participate in the electronic resources life cycle, mentoring eResources Unit and other ITS employees; and actively working across departments to optimize access to electronic resources.

Priorities will be set to maximize contributions to the overall goals of the Information and Technical Services Department of the Harvard Library. Due to the varied nature and volume of the work in ITS, all ITS staff may be called upon to contribute to work in any unit or team of the ITS department, as organizational needs warrant.
This position supports ongoing access to the heavily used online resources of Harvard Library, assisting with the payment of over $20 million in annual expenditures to provide access to these materials.
Position Description
- Implements and activates electronic resources in the Harvard Library’s e-resource management and access systems, working with vendors/publishers, Harvard library staff and Library Technology Services staff to enable access.
- Serves as first level support for electronic resource access and subscription problems, communicating with library users and staff, and vendors/publishers, using a variety of ticketing systems and software to compose related correspondence and trouble-shoot as needed.
- Maintains accurate information about Harvard’s electronic resources and related acquisitions, including entitlements, transfers, renewals, and cancellations.
- Communicates with appropriate library staff about availability of collection funds.
- Creates and maintains records for electronic resources in Harvard Library systems including access, discovery, and orders.
- Processes invoices for online resource materials received by the library; including all non-routine resource payments.
- Researches and resolves complex financial matters, including tracking payments in the Oracle online system, setting up vendors, and working with financial services.
- Creates and updates training and procedural documentation for the unit.
- Contributes to the overall goals of the department as appropriate.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 2 or more years’ relevant experience
- Proficiency with spreadsheets and standard office software
- Demonstrated experience with automated systems
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrated interest in managing online information resources in libraries.
- Experience working in a library or research setting.
- Direct experience working with online library resources, materials acquisitions, or library materials vendors/subscription agents.
- Aptitude for learning new computer applications quickly with minimal instruction.
- Ability to work independently to perform complex tasks.
- Experience with integrated library systems and/or library services platforms.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, allowing for collaboration with diverse groups, including library patrons and staff, and vendor sales and technical support representatives.
- Significant organizational and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail required.
