Evening LA III Schedule
Sunday-Thursday: 3:45pm-12:00am
Friday-Saturday: Off
Daytime LA III Schedule
Tuesday-Thursday: 7:45am-4:00pm
Friday: 8:45am-5:00pm
Saturday: 7:45am-4:00pm
Sunday-Monday: Off
Salary: $1,733.18 Bi-Weekly (Grade 14, Step 1)
This is an AFSCME paraprofessional position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement

Essential Duties:
- Serve patrons at our busy service point in all Library related inquiries.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of students from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of abilities.
- Perform a variety of access services tasks and circulation duties as assigned, including checking library material in and out, answering phones, responding to online chats, processing items on-hold for patrons, unpacking and organizing deliveries from our library network.
- Perform start up or closing tasks for specific shifts.
- Answer basic reference and technology questions.
- Perform various inventory control tasks, including re-shelving materials, shelf-reading, assisting with weeding of materials, and book stacks maintenance.
- Assist patrons in the basic use of the library catalog and other online library databases.
- Assist with recruitment, supervision, and training of student workers.
- Create book and resource displays within the library.
- Participate in library and university-wide library outreach efforts.
- Gather, organize, and prepare monthly library service statistics.
- Attend workshops, seminars, and other educational opportunities to enhance job knowledge.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Two years’ experience as a library assistant in an academic library or public library, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity.
- General knowledge of library services and workflows.
- Commitment to customer service excellence/support to enhance an environment of equity,
diversity and inclusion. - Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to deal tactfully with others and provide effective customer service.
- General knowledge of computers and basic skills with Office 365 or other workplace productivity
software. - Experience using library systems and equipment typically found in libraries (i.e., printers,
photocopiers, scanners, and other hardware and software). - Ability to stand for prolonged periods, to bend, stoop, reach and push heavy book carts (up to
40lbs.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or higher.
- Experience answering library reference questions.
- Knowledge of library research, reference materials, and general library services.
- Experience troubleshooting desktop computers and software (e.g., Windows 10, printer and scanner drivers, Microsoft Word and Excel, etc.).
- Experience documenting policies and workflows.
- Experience training others in processes, workflows, and policies. Posting closes August 7, 2022
