McArthur Library, located in Biddeford, Maine, is currently accepting applications for a full-time Children’s Librarian (37.5 hours/week). Biddeford continues to re-invent itself and the community is thriving currently, with new businesses and new faces in the library on a regular basis. The ideal candidate will have outstanding customer service skills, a natural affinity with our young patrons, a great sense of humor, boundless energy and ambition, be detail-oriented, tech savvy, and able to work in a busy, fast-paced environment.
Preference will be given to candidates who hold a Masters Degree in Library Science or equivalent. Candidates must have at least 1 year of previous supervisory experience (ideally in a similar setting), and will ideally have 3 or more years of similar experience in a public or school library.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Supervising and leading a talented team of Children’s Library Assistants;
- Effectively advocating for children in both the library and the wider community and school district;
- Providing direct services in the children’s room to children, families, and caregivers;
- Collection development and purchasing for our children’s collection, and management of the children’s library space;
- Coordinating all children’s programming and outreach, working in collaboration with the Children’s Services team and other McArthur Library team members;
- Performing as a member of core Library Leadership team.
This full-time exempt position includes benefits, and the pay range begins at $25.00/hour and will scale up, depending on previous experience. The schedule will include at least one evening per week and rotating Saturdays.
