Description:

The Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America seeks a part-time processing assistant to support archival processing projects at the library. Under the supervision of the Senior Archivist, processing assistants perform a variety of tasks for the Manuscript division such as: simple processing tasks (e.g., alphabetizing or chronologizing documents, removing rusty paperclips, typing folder lists); basic preservation tasks, such as refoldering and photocopying manuscripts; working with in-house databases; conducting research; etc.  This position is a great opportunity to get hands-on experience with manuscript materials, rare books and periodicals, as well as a broad view of what research in historical collections entails.

Location:

3 James Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Offsite offices are located at 40 Concord Ave., Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Qualifications:

Ability to interact well with staff.

Strong attention to detail. 

Excellent communication skills

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment

Sensitivity to proper care and handling of special collections.

Ability to lift boxes up to 40 pounds on a regular basis. 

Preferred: Interest in women’s studies, prior archives or library experience. 

Hours:

Part-time, flexible during library hours.  14 hours per week.

Salary: $16/hr
