Job Title: Director of Resource Management and Description
Job Description (detailed): Villanova University’s Falvey Memorial Library seeks an enthusiastic, collaborative, and innovative individual to lead the acquisition, licensing, description, and electronic managements of collection resources in an open and inclusive academic library environment.
The Director of Resource Management and Description reports to the University Librarian (UL) and oversees resource management, bibliographic description management, and assessment at Falvey Memorial Library. Provides strategic direction for the development of new workflows, services, and functions in resource management and description. Oversees and contributes to negotiation of licenses and acquisitions. Manages department staff of 9 FTE. In partnership with UL, develops collections budget and coordinates Collection Management Committee. Member of Library’s senior leadership committee.

The Library offers flexible work schedules which allow some remote work. The University’s competitive benefits package includes tuition benefits among others. A 35-hour work week with the possibility of reduced work hours in summer.
Director of Resource Management and Description:
- provides strategic direction and operational leadership for Resource Management and Description Department
- manages staff in the department
- oversees and, in collaboration with Acquisitions and Licensing Librarian, negotiates and manages acquisitions and licenses
- as a member of the Library’s senior leadership team, shares responsibility for strategic planning, policy development, financial planning, governance, and the development of major library initiatives
- leads and contributes to programs, goals, and strategic initiatives of the Library including a transition to a new ILS, University, and professional organizations, as appropriate
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution
- 5+ years of experience in metadata, acquisition, licensing and managing electronic resources lifecycle activities
- Evidence of a strong commitment to diversity and a leadership style that is transparent and inclusive
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities, exercise flexibility in meeting objectives
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues
- Excellent analytical and organization skills
- Proven record of ongoing professional development
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- 3+ years of experience in personnel management preferred
