Saint Anselm College, a private, liberal arts college in the Benedictine tradition, is seeking a Head of Interlibrary Loan and Periodicals (Library Technical Assistant III) to join the Geisel Library. Reporting to the Head of Collection Development, the Head of Interlibrary Loan and Periodicals has primary responsibility for managing all Interlibrary Loan operations, supervising Periodicals desk staff and student workers, and maintaining the library’s lower level collections, including print and microform periodicals, audio/visual, and curriculum. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong customer service orientation coupled with advanced technical competency and attention to details. An eagerness to learn the intricacies of library technical operations is also necessary. This is a full-time (35 hours per week), 12-month position.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Obtain materials requested by Saint Anselm College patrons and deliver materials in physical or electronic form.
  • Fulfill requests by patrons at other libraries for Geisel Library materials.
  • Supervise part-time, evening/weekend Periodicals Supervisors and ILL and Periodicals student workers, including training, answering questions, and monitoring their work.
  • Work shifts beyond the positions regular working hours to cover for open shifts (due to illness, leave, etc.) of periodicals staff, which may include opening or closing the library.
  • Process overdue notices and invoices for incoming and outgoing ILL items as needed.
  • Identify materials requested through ILL that should be acquired for the Geisel collection.
  • Maintain and update the ILL software and periodical databases and spreadsheets, adapting the workflows to accommodate software changes and policy and procedure updates.
  • Gather and report statistics on ILL and periodicals usage, copyright payments, and customer service at the Periodicals Desk.
  • Maintain and update online documentation of ILL, periodicals, and lower level collections procedures and staff/student training guides.
  • Oversee maintenance of and access to all lower level physical collections, including assisting patrons and updating workflows to improve efficiencies.
  • Instruct patrons in the use of computers, photocopiers, scanners, microfilm/fiche equipment, and audio/visual equipment.
  • Respond to emergencies by following emergency response procedures in a calm and efficient manner.
  • Assist with other library operations, projects, or duties as assigned.

Skills

  • Ability to both lead a team, managing/prioritizing tasks and projects, and work independently and follow directions.
  • Ability to solve problems and/or patron concerns and difficulties with tact, courtesy, and sound judgment.
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience and comfort with navigating complex computer software interfaces, such as ILLiad and Sierra or similar integrated library and interlibrary loan systems, library databases and resources, the Internet, and working with spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel, and other Microsoft Office programs.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated administrative and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and capacity for embracing change and new initiatives, programs, and services.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree plus two years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired
