Are you excited about the possibilities that libraries can do with technology? We certainly are! The Belmont Public Library is seeking a Technology Librarian who fits with our vision of what technology in public libraries can be. In the past year, we’ve expanded online streaming services, rocked virtual programming, and figured out how to offer computer appointments with contactless support. We’re looking for a librarian who is forward thinking, and capable of managing the technology infrastructure of a busy library. Experience is key, but we’re interested in someone who is willing to take on a challenge with determination and a good sense of humor.
This position is in charge of the Library’s technology growth: evaluating current and future needs, both online & in- house, in addition to ongoing technology concerns – installing, configuring, and troubleshooting equipment and software. Further responsibilities include serving as a website administrator; contributing to the expansion and maintenance of a Library of Things collection; acting as technical liaison to the Minuteman Library Network; and working with Town and School IT professionals to collaborate on opportunities. In addition the Technology Librarian maintains the technology budget, computer warranties, software licenses and schedules.
The Technology Librarian works on the Reference Desk as part of the professional librarian staff for up to 10 hours per week. In addition there are regular Saturday hours, generally scheduled every three weeks. This position serves as designated “Person in Charge” of the library as part of a rotation when the Library Director is out of the library. Supervision of a Technology Intern is also part of this position.
This is a full time 35 hour per week position covered under a collective bargaining agreement with the Belmont Librarian’s Association. The starting hourly rate is $35.92 for FY 2022 and qualifies for the Town’s comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental and life insurance, 4 weeks paid vacation, sick, personal and holiday leave. This position also qualifies for the Town’s pension plan.

Qualifications
Qualifications include a Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school with one year reference library experience and 1-3 years of progressive experience in computers and technology responsibility, with network computer experience a plus.
