We seek a vibrant and creative individual that exhibits a passion for children’s literature as well as a dedication to excellent service for all library patrons.
In addition to staffing the children’s room desk, the candidate will be expected to initiate, plan, and implement a variety of programs and activities for children from birth through grade 5, as well as their caregivers. These will include, but will not be limited to: implementing early literacy initiatives such as 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, story times, summer reading, and craft programs.
The Youth Services Librarian will evaluate and select materials for children to ensure the availability of a well-rounded, current collection. They will conduct outreach and seek community partnerships. As part of these efforts the successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
The successful applicant must truly enjoy working with children, demonstrate empathy for their interests and needs, and be dedicated to advocating for them.
This is a unique opportunity for an individual whose commitment will help support the library community who have co-created a 21st century library that merges an historic building built in 1897 with a state-of-the-art addition of 8,700-square foot two-story facility. Our library is fortunate to have a devoted, long tenured staff. Weeks Public Library is located in an enviable location on New Hampshire’s seacoast; Greenland has the fastest growing population in the area.
This position will be available at the end of August, due to our current librarian’s retirement. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
- MLS from an accredited library school or Bachelor’s Degree with relevant public library experience.
- Sound judgment and excellent critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to the mission and philosophy of public library service.
- Ability to work effectively with staff, library trustees, elected officials, and community groups with enthusiasm and resourcefulness.
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate multiple projects.
- Excellent technology skills and desire to learn new technologies.
- Pre-employment criminal background check required.
WORK SCHEDULE
40 hours a week, including one Saturday a month.
Annual salary for this full-time position is $40,000- $45,000 depending on experience; includes a benefits package with New Hampshire Retirement System, Health, and Dental Insurance.
