The Grafton Public Library anticipates a vacancy in the Head of Borrower Services position in June 2022 due to retirement. The ideal candidate has a comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of professional library work, including the local C/W MARS network and automated circulation functions; a broad knowledge of contemporary popular fiction and public reading tastes and familiarity with review media; oral and written communications skills requisite to interact effectively with library patrons and colleagues; and proficiency in computer operations and automated systems.
Under the direction of the Library Director, the Head of Borrower Services is responsible for the provision of administrative and supervisory services at the adult circulation desks including general material circulation, interlibrary loans, readers advisory, meeting room reservations, and other services to patrons as required.
The Head of Borrower Services :
- Manages all aspects of Borrower Services, including the physical space, group study rooms, computers, sorting room/AMH, and restrooms;
- Supervises and coordinates circulation services for all ages;
- Supervises, schedules, directs, and evaluates staff and volunteers assigned to Borrower Services;
- Develops, maintains, and manages the collection development budget for books and media for ages 18+ collections, including selecting and marketing genre fiction and media in print, audio, visual, and digital formats;
- Helps plan for and directs the maintenance of the library’s adult fiction collections, including weeding,
inventory, and shifting of materials; - Directs the library’s service providing outreach to nursing homes and home delivery of library
materials, selection of items for patrons, and volunteers to deliver materials; - Supervises the Library Volunteer Program, including English Language Learner (ELL) tutor pairings,
interns, senior tax incentive volunteers, National Honor Society students, and general volunteers; - Oversees planning and implementation of department programs, tours, and displays;
- Oversees and/or configures interlibrary loans, museum pass software, meeting room software, library
calendar, library newsletter and/or adult programming; - May assume the responsibility for operation of the Library as acting manager during temporary
absences of the Library Director.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent required. Two to three years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience. This is a full-time position with benefits. The schedule of 35 hrs/ week includes weekday, Saturday, and evening hours. Salary range with twelve steps is $26.52 – $34.80 per hour in 12 annual steps.
