The Grafton Public Library anticipates a vacancy due to June 2022 retirement, anticipates hiring an Adult Services Librarian – Technical Services. The ideal candidate has a comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of professional library work including reference tools, cataloging of classification systems, and automated circulation functions; knowledge of the organization and management of library including operations and computer applications in support of department operations and services such as the Internet, a knowledge of the Evergreen ILS Cataloging Module, and ability to apply the Dewey Decimal Classification System and Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, and Library of Congress Subject Headings.
Under the direction of the Library Director, the Adult Services Librarian – Technical Services is responsible for acquisition, cataloging and processing of all material added to library collections, for de-accessioning discarded items, and for library database maintenance.
The Adult Services Librarian – Technical Services:
- Oversees the acquisition and cataloging of library materials functions for material purchases and donations;
- Prioritizes the processing of new and donated items and other technical processing;
- Receives and confirms completeness of shipments of new materials;
- Applies national cataloging standards, matches new items tom appropriate bibliographic records in the ILS database;
- Adds/edits local holding information in the ILS database;
- Assigns call numbers using the Dewey Decimal Classification system;
- Performs physical processing (i.e. affixing barcodes, book covers, spine labels, RFID tags, putting
together kits) as needed; - Assists patrons with reference and reader’s advisory requests and bibliographic instruction including
traditional library media, the Internet, the Evergreen online catalog, and other online resources; - Coordinates collection maintenance and inventory;
- Acts as liaison to Ingram, CW MARS, Bibliotheca and other vendors/service providers to coordinate
issues related to ordering, processing, cataloging and RFID.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent required. Two to three years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience.
This is a full-time position with benefits. The schedule of 35 hrs/ week includes weekday, Saturday, and evening hours. Salary range with twelve steps is $24.48 – $32.12 per hour; all new hires begin at step 1.
