Cataloging intern:
The Cataloging Internship offers students and emerging professionals the opportunity to work hands-on with objects in the NHS collections. Cataloging Interns will assist in entering data into the NHS’s PastPerfect Museum Software database. Duties may also include photographing objects and uploading photos to PastPerfect.
Cataloging Interns will commit a minimum of two hours a week on a schedule agreed upon with NHS staff. Attention to detail and ability to work independently are required. Experience using PastPerfect, or a background in data entry is a plus.
Qualifications:
Current or recent enrollment in Master’s degree in library and/or information science program
Interest in local history, digitization, and archive collections.
Senior research and collection intern
The NHS Senior Research and Collections Internship offers college graduates and emerging professionals opportunities to gain experience working with collections and other public historical initiatives in a small museum setting. These internships will be tailored to the experience and interests of the intern and the current needs of the NHS.
Senior Interns will commit a larger number of hours and become engaged in longer form research-based projects and/or projects that foster institutional growth.
Tasks may include: accession, process, digitize, research, writing, filming, or photographing collections. As part of the program, interns will research and write content for circulation on social media, the NHS website, an exhibit, and/or other outlets depending on the skills and experience of the intern.
Qualifications:
Current or recent enrollment in Master’s degree in library and/or information science program
Interest in local history, digitization, and archive collections.
