The Winchester Public Library Board of Trustees is seeking a dynamic, community-minded leader to serve as Library Director. Winchester (population 22,700) is a growing and increasingly diverse suburb of Boston, and its library is a much-loved and valued public resource. As such, the library and its director are strongly supported by town government, the Board of Trustees, and an active and dedicated Friends of the Library organization. The library is housed in a well-maintained historic building with a modern addition in Winchester’s vibrant town center. The library has an annual circulation of 271,685, a staff of 58 employees (12 full time) and a budget of $2.2M. The Library Director will be a strong communicator with exceptional management and team building skills, and the ability to foster and nourish a stable and positive work environment. The Director will enthusiastically maintain and cultivate partnerships within the community, and effectively represent and promote support for library programs and initiatives.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program in Library and Information Science and certification by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. Candidates must demonstrate a proven track record of a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience at progressively responsible levels, including three years in a supervisory capacity. Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of library work and of the organization and management of public library operations is required.
