This Part-time (12-14 hours per week) position works has primary responsibility for all publicity, marketing, and outreach activities of the Public Library. Manages adult programming.
The person in this position works regular shifts at a public service desk, assisting customers in person, on the phone, and via email.
Immediate Supervisor: This is a part-time position supervised by the Library Director.
Position objectives:
Promotes and publicizes library events, programs, and services. Creates methods and materials to reach new users and those unaware of the full range of services, including displays, exhibits, website updates, press releases, and printed materials. In cooperation with library staff, organizes and implements various adult programs and special events.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Initiates, plans, and conducts programs and activities to encourage the use of the Library.
- Promotes programs and services through press releases, flyers, newspapers, and other public relations channels.
- Explores outside sources of funding for special events or programs as needed.
- Participates in developing goals, policies, and procedures related to Adult Programming.
- Plans to organize and maintain the Library’s website, Facebook, and other social media.
- Advocates for adult services with other Town and community agencies.
- The person in this position works regular shifts at the circulation desk, assisting customers on the phone and via email.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong customer service and outreach skills.
- Knowledge of adult programming needs.
- Computer and Internet literacy.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to function both as a member of a team and independently.
- Ability to liaise between the Library and other Town agencies.
Education, Experience, and Training:
- BA or BS in communications, marketing, or related field preferred.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in Marketing or communications is required, with some experience in website maintenance.
- Familiarity with library programs for adults, including multicultural programs, is desired.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Access, social media platforms, and online marketing platforms. Demonstrated knowledge of program planning and ability to negotiate with performers and presenters.
Schedule: Two days per week with some evenings and Saturdays.
Salary: $16 per hour, 12-14 hours per week.
