Posted April 15, 2022
Description:
The Boston Psychoanalytic Society & Institute (BPSI) is a membership organization and school providing
advanced training and education in the field of psychoanalysis, located in Newton Centre. Our library is a
large, comfortable, and welcoming space at the center of our historic building – a beautiful room visible
from the building’s entrance. It serves our membership of over 400 psychotherapy and psychoanalytic
students, faculty, scholars, and community members. With comfortable chairs for reading and a large
table for working, the library houses roughly 8,000 volumes and more than 20 psychoanalytic journals.
Our extensive archival collection is held on the third floor of our building. The library also exhibits small
collections of photographs and paintings by psychoanalysts and displays recent psychoanalytic
publications, many from our own membership.
As BPSI’s librarian, you have the opportunity to oversee and maintain a world-class psychoanalytic
library and archives, and to work with a community of highly educated, intellectually curious,
humanitarian and committed clinicians and scholars. The Librarian is a highly visible position at BPSI and
provides instrumental support for BPSI’s training programs, members, and scholars. BPSI’s affiliation with national and international psychoanalytic organizations provides the opportunity for the librarian
to collaborate with librarians and other professionals from Institutes around the country.
Our ideal candidate will be an intellectually curious analytical thinker with excellent communication
skills both verbally and in writing. Our new team member will be a self-starter with a natural ability to
organize and prioritize, and will possess the highest ethical and professional standards, have a pleasant
outgoing demeanor, and enjoy interacting with others in a fast paced, dynamic nonprofit.
BPSI offers excellent benefits including:
• Generous paid vacation and flex time
• Health and dental insurance
• 403B pension plan
• Professional Development tuition reimbursement
• Flexible spending accounts
• Free parking and MBTA accessible
• Paid travel to National conference with opportunity for collaboration with professional colleagues and professional growth
