Antiracism Collections Intern
Harvard Library’s Office for Antiracism is offering three paid internships for graduate students to assist Harvard Library with creating its new EDIBA (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging and Antiracism) reading room.
These paid internships are open to students who will be entering their second year of a master’s program in Library and Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited program. The purpose of the internship is to expose graduate students in the School of Information to Harvard Library’s work.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Researching and identifying diverse and dissenting voices to add to our collection
- Recommending print materials for the reading room
- Strategically highlighting our digital materials that are a part of the EDIBA digitization efforts
- Design a Library Guide to educate users and promote our EDIBA collection, print and digital
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must be pursing a master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited program.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficient knowledge of collection development processes and policies, including buying plans, etc.
- Ability to work collaboratively and productively with colleagues and stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to learn new tools and technologies
- Strong organizational skills
ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
- Pay: Hourly pay with a housing subsidy and travel subsidy
- In-person and on-site full-time
- Three (3) positions available
- 30 hours/week
- June- August 6, 2022
- Physical demands: Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.; some lifting, kneeling, and sitting; and some exposure to dirt and dust
Antiracism Communications Intern
Join the Harvard Library Communications team to support the Associate University Librarian for Antiracism and Harvard Library’s Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Antiracism (EDIBA) portfolio.
The Antiracism Communications Intern will help tell the story of Harvard Library’s EDIBA work to our communities and create consistency throughout all communications. The intern will report to Harvard Library Communication’s Content Strategist and work closely with the Associate University Librarian for Antiracism and the Antiracism Collections Intern.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Strong writing skills; can edit for clarity
- An understanding and curiosity of—and demonstrated commitment to—racial, gender, and intersectional equity
- Experience in communications, web editing, or social media
RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with the AUL for Antiracism and Library Communications Content Strategist to:
- Develop EDIBA department website, including writing web copy
- Research and draft written content for emails, newsletters, webpages, social media, memos, and talking points
- Conduct landscape review to build a database of similar work happening at Harvard and other universities and libraries
- Assist with workshops and trainings including producing posters, email invitations, and advertising; provide technical support at remote events as needed
- Keep the library’s EDIBA team up to date on the latest advocacy-related news and literature
SCHEDULE
Hours are flexible, between 20-35 hrs/week with a possibility of renewal for Fall 2022. Remote and in-person work options available. Pay is $15-$18/hour. We’d love you to start as soon as you’re ready!
