Senior Library & Technical Services Assistant, Bancroft Memorial Library, Hopedale, MA

The Bancroft Memorial Library is seeking a full-time (34.5 hours) Senior Library & Technical Services Assistant. The ideal candidate has experience working in public libraries (particularly in circulation and technical services departments), and is an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, organized, energetic, customer-focused team player with a positive attitude. Duties include maintaining the library’s bibliographic records in the CW Mars consortium catalog, coordinating the interlibrary loan program, providing circulation, readers’ advisory and reference services, creating and implementing programs, and training volunteers. Must be able to work independently, prioritize, adapt quickly to changing environments, meet established deadlines, and embrace changing technologies. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required, as well as demonstrated commitment to excellence in public service and enthusiasm for working with people of all ages.


Qualifications
·         Working knowledge of library procedures
·         Commitment to excellence in customer service
·         Ability to provide information and assistance to patrons and maintain favorable public relations
·         Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
·         Proficient knowledge of automated library systems and other library related software
·         Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Excel and Word
·         Ability to fairly and tactfully explain library policies to patrons
·         Ability to either satisfactorily resolve any problems resulting from those policies or refer the
patron to a supervisor
·         Ability to continually balance the competing needs of library users
·         Ability to adapt and apply new technology
·         Ability to perform detailed work accurately and with frequent interruptions

Full Time: The position is full-time 34.5 hours per week (non-exempt/hourly) and includes benefits. The work schedule will include two evenings per week (Mondays and Wednesdays) and alternating Saturdays.


Education: Associate’s degree and one to three (1-3) years of prior work experience in a public library setting; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.


Salary: $48,000 / annually
