Utah State University Libraries seeks a creative and service-oriented librarian to join the Learning & Engagement Services Unit and contribute to a robust and thriving instruction and outreach program. We are seeking applicants who welcome a dynamic, collaborative environment and wish to have a strong impact on student learning and faculty engagement. The position is a 12-month, tenure-track, faculty appointment with rank of Assistant Librarian, reporting to the Head of Learning and Engagement Services. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2022.

We are seeking applicants who can foster student engagement with the library, reach out to diverse student populations and heighten awareness of library services across campus. In that effort, the Outreach & Liaison Librarian will strive to provide equitable access to library services by identifying under-served populations. They will work with various teams, including the First Year Experience Librarian, to provide outreach activities aimed at students. Outreach efforts span from planning fall semester welcome events such as Day on the Quad to year-round programming.

This position will also serve as the primary liaison between USU Libraries and the College of Engineering. Subject liaison duties include developing course-integrated instruction, providing outreach, promoting library collections and research services to faculty and students, and further developing the print and digital collections in assigned areas. The successful candidate will participate in the Learning & Engagement Services unit’s core functions of teaching, learning, outreach, engagement and instructional assessment. Responsibilities:

  • Participate in LES’s core functions of teaching, learning, outreach, engagement and instructional assessment;
  • Coordinate and assess library outreach efforts, including planning welcome events and year-round programming;
  • Serve as a liaison to the College of Engineering;
  • Collaborate with library colleagues and academic faculty to design, deliver, and assess information literacy outcomes for online, hybrid, and in-person targeted liaison courses;
  • Provide information literacy instruction for English composition courses for both in-person and online classes;
  • Provide innovative reference services including individual consultations and research support;
  • Participate in professional development opportunities relevant to the needs of the position.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • ALA­ accredited MLS degree before hire date;
  • Demonstrated interest in library instruction and information literacy;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills;
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively;
  • Ability to meet the university’s requirements for promotion and tenure, including excellence in librarianship and effective scholarly output and service to the university and profession;
  • Ability to develop collegial working relationships with administrators, staff, and faculty across campus;
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion work, especially as applied to public services and library instruction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an academic or research library;
  • Experience delivering instruction, especially with first-year college students;
  • Experience or interest in the STEM field;
  • Experience with outreach programming or student involvement.
