Reporting to and working closely with the Interim Associate University Archivist for Collection Development and Records Management Services (Interim AUACD/RMS), the Collection Development Archivist (CDA) prepares incoming collections of various origin for accessioning by appraising, inventorying, packing, labeling, and completing necessary accession paperwork for intake. As needed, will also assist in the identification of University records in Harvard offices and studies used by retiring/departing faculty, and in the preparation for transferring archival records to the University Archives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare collections and records for donation/transfer to the Archives, including packing collections and coordinating transport of acquired collections/records.
- Prepare personal archives of Harvard faculty and archives and other Harvard historical materials for accessioning, appraising contents, creating box and folder level inventories, re-housing collections and noting preservation concerns, identifying restricted materials, and drafting appraisal memos and accession paperwork.
- Vet and verify supporting documentation for decisions regarding copyright permission requests. Draft permission-to-publish letters for the for the Interim AUACDRM

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in library/information science/archives or equivalent with successful completion of university-level archives coursework
- Knowledge of the principals of archival arrangement and description and familiarity with archival cataloging practices.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Must be licensed to drive a car and willing to travel off campus
- Must be able to regularly lift 40 lb. records storage boxes
