Call for Student and Recent Graduate Poster Presentations: Historic New England’s 2022 Summit

Historic New England is soliciting student and recent graduate poster presentations for the 2022 Historic New England Summit to be held at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, MA, October 13-14, 2022. This regional multi-disciplinary event will assemble provocative, informative and collaborative experts for a highly interactive conversation about how New England’s rich heritage is an essential consideration in developing vibrant, livable, and resilient communities.


Poster proposals may be submitted by students (undergraduate and graduate) currently enrolled in or recent alumni (Class of 2018-2022) of an academic program in historic preservation, architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, real estate development, art conservation and collections management, museum studies, archives management, public history, art, education or a closely related field.


Proposal Guidelines
Proposals should be submitted as a 300-word abstract outlining a research topic or project. Students are encouraged to explore how twenty-first-century challenges and opportunities are transforming New England communities through social history, material culture, preservation, education, and sustainability. Suggested key issues, topics, and concepts may include but are not limited to:
• Interpretation and inclusive history telling through buildings, landscapes, objects, art, etc.
• Preservation advocacy
• History education and teaching
• Community planning and revitalization
• Agricultural preservation and cultural landscape conservation efforts
• Climate change, resiliency, and energy efficiency
• Traditional trades education
• Adaptive use and revitalization of historic buildings
• Living archives and inclusive curatorial practice
• Impacts of technology on storytelling, preservation advocacy, historic resource accessibility, etc.
• Preservation of intangible heritage
• Demolition and architectural salvage

How to apply:

Students are invited to submit abstracts (individually or as a group) via the online form on
https://www.historicnewengland.org/summit-poster-presentations/. Proposals will be reviewed and selected by Historic New England staff. All submissions must be received by 5 pm on Friday, May 13, 2022 to be considered. A complete submission must include:
• Abstract (up to 300 words)
• Two captioned images
• Poster Title
• Author(s) name and email address(es)
• School(s)
• One-page curriculum vitae (per student)
