The Trustees of the Laconia Public Library are seeking an enthusiastic, creative individual with a robust combination of interpersonal, leadership, technical, financial, promotional, and library science skills to fill a key leadership role as the Library Director.

The Library is located in the quaint City of Laconia which is the heart of the beautiful Lakes Region of New Hampshire and is nestled between the Belknap Mountains and the extraordinary Lake Winnipesaukee (36th largest, natural lake in America). The Library circulates 115,000 items annually, has a staff of nine full-time and four part-time employees, an annual budget of close to one million dollars, and terrific community support. The full-time population is 16,871 however, because of the quality of life, scenic beauty and recreational opportunities available year-round, Laconia also has very large second home and seasonal populations that also use the Library. The Gale Library building is a gorgeous 1903 Romanesque Revival building with significant renovations and a new addition in 2005 doubled the size.

The Director reports directly to the Board of Trustees while enjoying the comradery of working with other department heads as the library is a City department. The Library Director supervises and provides leadership to the Library staff. The Director is also responsible for all administrative duties including personnel management, interpreting and implementing operational policies, development and oversight of the budget, evaluating and growing the collection, and facilities management as well as staying abreast of industry trends and changing legislation. The Director will also lead the staff and board through special projects that may be undertaken from time to time, such as the re-imaging of the Children’s Room, expansion of the Teen Room, and the possible creation of a Maker-Space. The Board is seeking a seasoned leader who is prepared to be responsible for all administrative work, as well as the daily operations of the Library.
