Overview
Reporting to the Head of Adult Services, the Digital Services Librarian is responsible for maintaining
the Athenaeum’s digital branch and branding, maintaining social media, creating and supervising
virtual programming, and partnering with the Technology Librarian on the website to craft a single
brand across all digital platforms. The person occupying this position is a member of the Adult
Services team and provides high-quality customer service at the Reference Desk to the library’s
diverse patrons.
Responsibilities
- Creating and implementing digital programming for adults and children, including filming and video editing.
- Maintaining a “virtual” Athenaeum with equitable access to library services, such as reader’s advisory, programming, and reference assistance via virtual library chat and social media.
- Partnering with other library staff or outside programs (when applicable) to create virtual or hybrid programming.
- Maintaining social media and digital outreach channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,
- YouTube, digital advertising displays, and the library blog.
- Creating and scheduling a weekly email newsletter.
- Partnering with the Outreach Librarian to host digital versions of in-house programming and/or in- house versions of digital programming.
- Managing a section of the circulating collection, including selection and weeding.
- Providing research assistance, basic technology help, and readers advisory services to patrons.
- Performing circulation duties as needed.
- Opening and closing the library as needed.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in any subject and a master’s degree in library science and one to two years of professional library experience.
- Familiarity with public library services and programs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience creating digital outreach materials for social media.
- Experience creating and editing videos.
- Familiarity with social media management, web content creation, Canva, Hitfilm, and Audacity.
Salary Range
$21.00 – $23.32 / hour
