The UCR Library seeks an engaged, motivated, Teaching Librarian to join a highly collaborative Teaching and Learning Department. This position is a temporary, full-time appointment, eligible for benefits.


Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Teaching and Learning (at time of initial posting the AUL for Content and Discovery), the Teaching Librarian will be responsible primarily for collaborating with faculty to provide integrated information literacy sessions within the curriculum. The Teaching librarian will work with a collaborative team of Teaching Librarians that supports the instructional and reference goals of the library. The precise classes taught will be determined based on departmental needs. This opportunity is available to both experienced and new graduates who have completed their degree by the end of the posting period.


• Teach information literacy workshops primarily within lower division arts and humanities, social sciences and STEM classes.

• Provide general reference service support for students working on the information desk both virtually and in-person.

• Provide in-depth research consultations with faculty and instructors regarding information literacy course integration and appropriate supporting research materials.

• Assist in creating, maintaining, and updating online resources such as Libguides, videos, and tutorials that teach research and information literacy skills and promote library resources.

• Work collaboratively on departmental teaching and reference needs.

• Work on special projects as needed.


The successful candidate may assist on projects assessing the Libraries’ reference and instructional programs, and will have the opportunity to participate actively and collaboratively on library committees, task forces, and project teams. Opportunities will be provided to engage in professional development including activity in professional organizations, university and public service, and research and creative activity as appropriate.


QUALIFICATIONS
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited library school or an advanced degree.

• Demonstrated teaching experience and knowledge of pedagogical best practices.

• Ability to present information effectively to a group.

• Ability to provide excellent reference and instruction services in all formats for students and faculty in an academic library.

• Facility in designing and organizing web-based research guides and tutorials.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to work creatively, collaboratively and effectively and to promote teamwork, diversity, equality, and inclusiveness.

• Commitment to pedagogical professional development.


Preferred qualifications

• Experience providing instruction services in an academic library or higher education setting.

• Experience providing in-person and/or online reference service in an academic library.

• Experience creating web-based research guides or tutorials.
