Records Archivist, Pusey Library, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA (Temporary Position)

Pay Rate: $20.75 – $24.00 per hour depending on experience

Description:
Reporting to the Interim Associate University Archivist for Collection Development and Records
Management Services (Interim AUACD/RMS), the Records Manager/Archivist (RMA) works
closely with members of the Records Management unit to provide records management and
archives services, including fulfillment of offsite storage transactions, with a focus on customer
service and timely communication. In consultation with the Interim AUACD/RMS, the RMA
prepares incoming collections of University records, coordinates packing, loading and
transporting institutional records and collections from offices and other locations to the
Archives; appraising and inventorying contents, noting preservation concerns; and completing
necessary accession paperwork for intake.


Duties and responsibilities:
• Prepare archival collections for accessioning: appraising contents, verifying box and
folder level inventories, re-housing collections as needed and noting preservation
concerns, and drafting appraisal memos and accession paperwork.
• Maintain consistent data in collection management systems (including RMS Access
database); register new accessions into Archives collection management systems
(including ArchivesSpace and ICS)
• Contributes to fulfillment of offsite storage services to Records Management Services
customers, including arranging for storage and retrieval of University Records and
personal archives at the records center at the Harvard Depository (HD), managing
University office accounts, and processing transmittal and retrieval requests and
requests for supplies.
• Participate in the identification of records in offsite storage ready for destruction


Requirements:

• Master’s Degree in library/information science/archives or equivalent with successful
completion of university-level archives or records management coursework
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Frontline customer service experience preferred
• Familiarity in handling confidential information
• Must be licensed to drive a car and willing to travel off campus
• Must be able to regularly lift 40 lb. records storage boxes
