Circulation Assistant, Bowdoin College, Brunswick, ME

Under the general supervision of the Circulation and User Services Manager, participate in the activities of the circulation/reserve desks in a highly automated and fast-paced service environment. The Assistant will oversee all circulation desk activities during evenings and weekends as scheduled, supervise student assistants staffing the desk, coordinate the physical maintenance of library collections, prepare materials to be placed on reserve, support a variety of departmental functions, and assist library users with basic reference, information, and technology questions.

Standard Work Days and Hours:

35 hours/week, year round position. During academic year: Sunday – Thursday 4:00pm – 12:00am,. Daytime hours, Monday-Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm, are required when class is not in session.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED equivalent required; Strongly Preferred: College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Also required: Outstanding interpersonal, supervisory, and written and oral communication skills; strong customer service orientation and ability to work with a diverse group of people; excellent organizational and problem-solving skills; attention to detail; must be able to work independently and in a team environment; proven technology skills and use of a broad range of software applications.

A minimum of one year of library, customer service, or related experience. Preferred: Experience working at a library circulation desk and with an automated circulation system. Experience supervising and training student employees. Experience with stacks maintenance and access. Experience with providing general research assistance.
