The Clapp Memorial Library Board of Trustees seeks an innovative, enthusiastic, community-minded leader to serve as Library Director. Located in the Pioneer Valley, Belchertown MA (pop. 15,300) is a community rich in natural beauty with access to abundant outdoor recreational opportunities. The Library is housed in an historic 1887 building in the heart of the Belchertown Historic District, with a budget of $556,560, a staff of 5.8FTE, and a dedicated Friends of the Library organization.
Working under the direction of the Board, the Library Director must have demonstrated and proven management skills in the overall administration of the library’s services and programs to effectively meets the needs of the community. The Director reports to and works collaboratively with the Trustees, who delegate to the Director day-to-day responsibility to interpret and implement Board-adopted policies in such areas as collection development, budget management, patron relations, and personnel administration and supervision. The Board grants considerable latitude to the Director to accomplish the day-to-day operations of the Library.
The successful candidate must be a problem solver with strong decision-making skills, who has experience with municipal finance, personnel management, budgeting, library technology, and facility management.
Qualifications: Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program in Library Science, a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible library supervisory experience. Previous experience as a Director is highly desirable.
SALARY STEP RANGE: $75,311-$96,139.
