Salary:  $21.21 per hour 

Hours:  Full-time, 37.50 hours per week w/Benefits

Duties:

Responsible for programs and services geared to the adult users of the South Providence Library, including reference and readers’ advisory, collection development, technology and computer lab support, and programming (in person, online, and take home kits). South Providence has an inventory of maker space equipment (3D printer, vinyl cutter, sewing machine, and laser cutter) that adult library users can access. The Adult Services Librarian will participate in and support multi-library and system-wide initiatives across Providence Community Library.   

The Adult Services Librarian participates in the development of library service as part of the staff team, conducts outreach activities in the neighborhood, supervises volunteers in the adult library, and provides coverage in other departments (circulation/youth services) and at other libraries as needed.  

Because 52% of lower South Providence residents speak Spanish, with 18% not proficient in English, the goal is for approximately 50% of the  programs and services provided to be offered in Spanish, 

Hours may include evenings and weekends.

Please note: Job expectations will be adjusted if the selected candidate is enrolled in library school and increase as classes are completed toward degree attainment. 

Requirements:

MLS from an ALA accredited library school.  A strong background in programming and in providing library services to adults from a culturally diverse community is preferred; related experience in a community-based organization will be considered. Candidates who are fluent in Spanish and English are highly preferred. 

Library students who meet the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:

Must be enrolled in an ALA accredited Master’s Program in Library & Information Studies; experience working in a related field, bilingual (Spanish/English), and/or candidates who have completed some graduate credits in library school will be prioritized. Librarians in Training have the opportunity to gain real world experience in an urban library with professional librarian mentors for support. Librarians in Training are paid as specialists until the MLIS degree is completed at which time they will be promoted to Librarian.
