This position provides creative and strategic approaches to the development and stewardship of the Latina/o Studies collections at the Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection, and serves as the primary liaison to the Latino Studies program at UT Austin.
Responsibilities –
- Builds and manages the library’s collections in the areas of Mexican American and Latina/o studies and U.S.-Mexico border studies in all formats in support of teaching, learning, and scholarship on campus. Serves as an active member of the Benson collection development team. Actively seeks out distinctive and unique collection materials, particularly those focusing on the political, educational, and cultural experiences of Mexican Americans and Latinas/os in Texas. Works directly with donors, faculty, archivists, and staff on development, appraisal, and acquisition of collections. Works with University of Texas Libraries (UTL) and the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies (LLILAS) on grant project proposals and fundraising activities.
- Serves as the primary liaison between the Benson Collection and faculty and students of the university’s Latino Studies program, comprised of three units: the Department of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies (MALS), the Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS), and the Latino Research Institute (LRI). Maintains communication with local, state, and national Latino communities and organizations. Develops and promotes collection use through the creative application of technologies including digital exhibitions, and support for metadata creation for digital collections. Provides outreach and scholarly presentations to the public, professional organizations and conferences, and student groups. Leads programming for A Viva Voz, an annual event celebrating U.S. Latina/o arts and cultures.
- Provides specialized reference and instruction to faculty, students, and visiting researchers in person and online. Leads instruction sessions and tours in support of teaching and learning at the university, and for special visitors and guests of LLILAS Benson, UT Libraries, and the university.
- Actively participates in professional organizations. Participates in LLILAS Benson and UTL committee and project team efforts.
Salary – $50,000+ depending on qualifications
