The Technology Support Associate is an integral position in supporting the extensive technological spaces and services built into the Cabot Science Library and to help ensure excellent customer service for people using the library. The Technology Support Associate reports to the Emerging Technologies Specialist position in the Cabot Science Library.
Since a renovation in 2017, Cabot has added a XR studio and a robust VR headset lending program. Cabot staff are central to the spread of AR/VR/XR development and integration with coursework at Harvard. This position helps maintain the spaces and headsets that support that effort. Cabot Science Library also maintains a collection of technology that is available to be borrowed for short-term use, which includes laptops, digital cameras, voice recorders, video cameras, projectors, HDMI cables, and laptop and phone chargers. This position helps maintain this collection and determine what materials need repair or replacement and makes recommendations to the Emerging Technologies Specialist to maintain a robust collection that meets the patron technology needs.
The Technology support associate is much more than just behind-the-scenes support. This person needs to be conversant with the technology and spaces to interact with all users to provide training and answer questions about the equipment and best uses. Training is focused on making sure users are comfortable and able to make the most use of the spaces and technology.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain the technology-enhanced spaces in Cabot Science Library and support technology needs of events in the spaces
- Manage the technology loan program, including VR headsets and lending laptops, troubleshooting functional issues, and assisting users with training and use of items
- Conduct individual and group training on use of spaces in Cabot, including media recording studios and the VR studio
- Write and maintain documentation and help information for spaces and services in Cabot
- Monitor staff email list and respond to recording and VR studio requests and scheduling
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with coursework or major on film, video, or technology subjects
- Experience with customer service operations
- Experience with teaching or training technology hardware and software
- Expertise with recording and AV studio use
- Graphic design coursework or experience
