Description:
The New England College of Optometry (NECO), a small, focused, independent graduate school in Boston’s Back Bay, is seeking an Access Services Coordinator. This position performs a variety of duties related to the support and provision of library services, including managing circulation, coordinating course reserves, supporting interlibrary loan/document delivery, and supervising student workers. This full-time, 35 hours/week non-exempt position reports to the Director of Library Services. This position is ideal for someone currently undertaking or considering the MLIS degree.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Circulation and Information Services:
- Oversee the efficient circulation of materials, run circulation reports, and maintain the circulation manual
- Serve as the primary point of contact to patrons at the service desk, projecting an image of helpfulness, efficiency and professionalism
- Routinely evaluate circulation policies and practices
- Create and maintain patron records
- Offer assistance and instruction in the use of library catalog and online resources
- Collaborate with Business Office to bill students for overdue materials
- Participate on committees such as the Fenway Library Organization’s Circ Doc Committee
Student worker management:
- Hire, schedule, train and manage work study students
- Maintain library aide handbook
- Collaborate with the Director of Library Services and the Financial Aid Office to manage Federal and non-Federal work study student budgets
Management of document delivery and interlibrary loan services:
- Maintain statistics using automated reporting program
- Facilitate the efficient, cost effective delivery of materials
- Manage monthly EFTS billing and ensure ILL copyright compliance
Technical services and collection maintenance:
- Check in and claim print serials
- Prepare newly-cataloged materials for circulation
- Routinely evaluate which library materials are candidates for weeding
- Maintain the stacks through regular activities such as shifting and labeling
Course reserves management:
- Collaborate with faculty to determine materials for course reserve
- Prepare and manage course reserves, including both print and online materials
Oral history project:
- Prepare, conduct, and record interviews with members of the optometric community
- Create transcripts from interviews
- Hire, train, and manage work study students who work on the project
Other related duties:
- Primary point person for study space reservations within LibCal system
- Oversee care and maintenance of loanable technology such as iPads, etc., and maintain orderly public service areas
- Order and maintain inventory of office supplies
- Obtain and compile statistics on library services and collections
- Assist with occasional projects outside of the library, including exam proctoring
- Perform other related duties as necessitated by the position or as assigned
Requirements
- At least six months of experience in a library setting
- Experience in an academic library desired
- Retail and/or supervisory experience desired
- Mature, dependable and reliable work ethic is a must!

HOURS
- Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm
- Hours may be subject to minor changes, with advance notice
