The Simmons University Archives and Department of Nursing seek a Graduate Research Assistant to support a yearlong grant-funded historical research project. This project will produce and promote a clearer, deeper, and more detailed understanding—both within Simmons University and beyond—of the historical significance of the Nursing education programs at Simmons.
This Research Assistant will work closely with Project Managers (Nursing Faculty Member and University Archivist) to identify major historical themes in Twentieth Century Nursing Education and conduct primary and secondary source research to support the drafting of project deliverables (manuscript/timeline/exhibit). This work draws most heavily upon collections within the Simmons University Archives; research at other area repositories may also be of relevance.
This position will begin in Spring 2022 and continue through Summer 2022.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct primary and secondary source research into collections (both processed and unprocessed) at Simmons University Archives and elsewhere.
- Organizes and analyzes research findings; and delivers regular updates to Project Managers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current Enrollment and strong academic performance in Simmons Dual Degree Graduate Program in History and Archives through at least December 2022
- Experience conducting primary and secondary source and archival research
- Interest in 20th Century Nursing, women’s history, and/or higher education encouraged
- Ability to work independently, accurately, and carefully
SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION:
- Location: Simmons University Archives, 300 The Fenway, Boston
- Schedule: Set in consultation with Project Managers and during University Archives hours of operations
- Hours/wk: 5-10/wk; 80-100 in total, to be completed before September 2022
- Rate of pay: $18/hr
