In support of developing the next generation of librarians and information professionals, the Librarians-in-Residence program will give early-career librarians the opportunity to gain meaningful work experience in at least one track of the following: Archives and Special Collections; Cataloging and Metadata; Collection Preservation; Digital Services; Reference and Instruction. Not every track will be offered each program year. Please refer to the Vacancy Announcement on USAJOBS.gov for the most current offerings.
2022 Program
The Library of Congress is offering six positions for the 2022 program. The program begins September 12, 2022 and ends March 3, 2023.
Below are the list of placements for the 2022 program.
- (1) Archives and Special Collections: Researcher and Collections Services/Special Collections Directorate/Manuscript Division/Reference and Reader Services Section.
- (2) Cataloging and Metadata: Discovery and Preservation Services/Acquisitions & Bibliographic Access Directorate/Asian and Middle Eastern Division/Israel and Judaica Section. [Knowledge of Hebrew required]
- (3) Collection Preservation: Discovery and Preservation Services/Preservation Directorate/Preservation Services Division.
- (4) Digital Services: Discovery and Preservation Services/Digital Services Directorate/Digital Collections Management & Services Division/Digital Content Management Section.
- (5) Digital Services: Researcher and Collections Services/General & International Collections Directorate/African and Middle East Division/African Section.
- (6) Reference and Instruction: Law Library/Global Legal Research Directorate/Public Services Division.
Participants receive on-the-job training and undertake assignments that contribute to the ongoing mission and work of the Library. They participate in enrichment assignments and receive mentoring from seasoned professionals. They are also expected to participate in Library-wide activities, such as the National Book Festival, and to provide information sessions concerning their professional interests to Library staff as well as report back to their graduate programs on experiences as Librarians-in-Residence
