Internship, Eliot D. Pratt Library, Plainfield, Vermont

Description:

Goddard College seeks an MLIS student for a volunteer internship in summer 2022 at the Eliot D. Pratt Library in Plainfield, Vermont. Goddard College is an experimental liberal arts college offering online and low-residency options. The library serves students in-person and remotely. Fall semester residencies happen in the summer, with undergraduate and graduate students on-campus for intensive 8-day educational and community-building experiences, throughout July and August.

Responsibilities:

This internship provides the student with the opportunity to gain valuable academic library experience in a unique educational environment. Under the supervision of the Library Director, the student will work closely with library staff and assist with a range of duties, including staffing the combined Circulation & Reference Desk, assisting patrons with their research needs, fulfilling student requests for books by mail, processing student theses for inclusion in our digital archive, and fielding request for documents from the college archives. Depending upon the interest and skill of the intern, a number of projects may be available, including creating or redesigning research guides using the LibGuides platform, writing content for the library’s website, creating information literacy instruction tools in the LMS (Canvas), designing and leading remote research workshops, or creating library flyers and other promotional materials. Students whose focus is in Technical Services may also contribute to cataloging and book processing activities, and will have an opportunity to work in ContentDM for managing our institutional repository.

This internship experience is in person and thus dependent on COVID safety protocols.

The student will be expected to work 12 to 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday between 9 am and 5 pm, the specific hours to be determined. The residency cycle runs between June 1 and September 3, but the intern will be given some flexibility with start and end dates.

This internship is eligible for LIS 512: Advanced Field Experience in LIS.  For questions about course eligibility, please contact Prof. Sarah Pratt Martin ([email protected]) with questions.  However, enrollment in LIS 512 is not required to be considered for this internship.

Goddard requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination and boosters for all on-campus students, staff, and visitors.
