Library Assistant, Bryant University, Smithfield, RI

Description:

This is a 12-month, 35 hour a week position. This position has non-traditional hours: Sunday through Thursday 5:30pm-1:30am during the academic semester. Finals periods, winter intersession and summer schedules are variable according to academic sessions and library hours.

Principal Accountabilities

•        Providing basic patron assistance in the absence of librarians through face to face and digital methods, library systems and electronic and print information resources.

•        Effectively working with a diverse population of faculty, staff, students, and community members.

•        Providing accurate and timely administrative support to the librarians.

•        Maintaining print and electronic reserve readings using the library’s integrated library system. Includes document scanning and physical and digital organization of documents and books.

•        Providing basic troubleshooting of equipment such as copiers, microfilm readers, printers, scanners; assisting library users with MS Office suite and other software packages.

•        Supervision and training of Borrower Services student employees.

•        Processing Interlibrary Loan requests.         

•        Promoting library materials and services via digital signage, social media, and more.

•        Assisting other library departments as needed.

•        Attending department and library staff meetings.

•        Performing other related responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have experience working with library systems and materials, including print and electronic resources and the ability to develop credibility and trust with a wide range of constituent groups to be a successful resource to the Bryant campus community, students and families. Requires strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to work independently, and take initiative in a high-touch customer service environment and the ability to handle multiple priorities. Previous experience supervising student assistants or staff is required. A Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred.
