The Kingston Community Library in New Hampshire wishes to welcome a dynamic, creative, and customer-oriented library professional to our growing staff. This individual will work full-time to provide reference and adult services, library programming, and technology support. The Adult Services Librarian must have familiarity with professional library policies and procedures, including an understanding of research techniques and reference tools. The ideal candidate should have public library experience and/or an MLS. This position reports directly to the Library Director.
Library Description:
Our new library facility opened in 2012 and covers 9957 square feet, all in one level, dedicated rooms for adults, children, babies and teens, as well as 2 meetings rooms, a study room and a kitchen. The library collection consists of over 26,000 physical print items in addition to electronic resources and public use computers. The solar powered library has beautiful and flexible outdoor facilities that are perfect for programs or mindful moments on the fitness trail, story walk, or one of the beautiful herb, flower, butterfly and children’s gardens. KCL’s gardens are created and maintained by the Friends of the Library.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The following functions are considered essential to this position. The following is indicative of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position, but are not intended to be all-inclusive.
· Responsible for Adult Services including reference, reader’s advisory, programming, and exhibits.
· Oversees the general maintenance of the adult library collection including collection development, weeding, shelf reading, and inventory. Oversees cataloging and ILL for all library collections.
· Assists Library Director with community outreach in diverse environments in order to promote library services and to seek better understanding of patron needs.
· Markets programs and services through the Town newspaper, library newsletter, social media, library web site, and other outlets.
· Provides technology support to staff and the public. Stays abreast of new technology, providing classes on technology topics to the general public.
· Serves as a liaison between the Library and assisted living facilities, and other senior services.
· Assists Library Director with young adult services.
· Assists with circulation desk duties.
· Supervises library staff and volunteers supporting adult services.
· Provides statistical information related to programs, reference questions and other job duties to the Library Director.
· Participates in and represents the library in local and regional professional organizations. Stays up-to-date on trends and improvements in library services.
· Works with the NH State Library, updates cataloging records with the state and stays abreast of NH library events. Attends NH READS events.
- Must be able to push or pull carts, do a moderate amount of bending, squatting and lifting, stretching and standing for extended periods of time.
- May be asked to periodically attend Trustees and Friends meetings to keep them abreast of services.
· Serves as the supervisor in Director’s absence.
· Performs any and all other related duties as needed.
Experience and Skills Required:
An individual with an MLS is preferred for this position. Working knowledge of library catalogs and databases is required. Courses and/or library experience in cataloging with an understanding of MARC and facility with reference services are essential. Knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheets, and other desktop software are required for this position. The librarian is also expected to work independently and communicate effectively with minimal supervision.
Salary: $45,000-$50,000 annually depending on experience
