Evening/Weekend Library Coordinator, Hirsh Health Sciences Library, School of Medicine, Boston, MA

Hirsh Health Sciences Library provides collections and services to meet the information needs of the staff, students, and faculty of the Boston Health Sciences Campus. Located in Boston’s Chinatown/Theater District, the Campus is comprised of the Dental School, the Medical School (including programs in Public Health and Professional Programs), the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, as well as the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and the Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging (HNRCA) at Tufts University. The Circulation Team is highly visible and customer service-oriented, assisting patrons in person, on the phone, over chat, and via e-mail with various library services and resources. Major activities include assisting users in accessing services and resources, circulating materials, providing information about the library and its policies, assisting patrons in copying and printing, providing referrals when appropriate, and interacting closely with other Library departments.

Reporting to the Head of Research & Instruction, the Library Coordinator, Evenings/Weekends is responsible for staffing the Library Service Desk with student employees, and ensuring smooth workflow and superior customer service. This position hires, supervises, and trains student employees, monitors chat and email reference during their working hours, answers and refers questions, oversees the opening and closing of the Library, and handles any emergency or non-emergency situations during evenings and weekends. Other activities include collection and analysis of circulation and usage statistics using the circulation module of the University Library’s integrated library system and Qualtrics. The Coordinator will work with Tufts Technology Services and Facilities as-needed to support Library operations, assist in running the Student Library Advisory Committee, and serve on the Public Relations Committee.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • 1-3 years of related experience.
  • Bachelor’s
  • Proficient with editing web pages, social media, Microsoft Office Suite, use of an automated integrated library system
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs with or without accommodation.     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidate must be mature and possess outstanding customer service skills, preferably in a library environment with knowledge of library online systems (Alma or other ExLibris system preferred).
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated high level of good judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Candidate must be comfortable working independently, coordinating teamwork, and maintaining clear lines of communication with day and weekday staff.
  • Flexibility with changes in priorities, schedules and deadlines.
  • Experience recruiting and supervising staff, student workers, or peers strongly desired.
