The Department of Library and Information Studies in the Dewar College of Education and Human Services seeks applicants for a non-tenure-track faculty lecturer position beginning August 1, 2022. The lecturer position is renewable with a pathway for possible promotion to senior lecturer. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate’s area of expertise and providing service to the department and college.

The Department of Library and Information Studies is the home of a thriving ALA- accredited, fully online, asynchronous Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree program. The Department educates a diverse community of learners in the core competences and values of the library and information science professions, provides students with learning opportunities in traditional and emerging information environments, and prepares graduates to serve in a rapidly changing information society. The MLIS degree program prepares library and information professionals to be successful in entry level professional positions in academic, public, and special libraries.

RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for teaching graduate courses in library and information science in a fully online, asynchronous learning environment using the institution’s online learning platform, currently BrightSpace by D2L. The teaching expectation is anticipated to be a 4/4 load with the opportunity for summer teaching as student demand supports. Team teaching and course development opportunities are possibilities as well.
Service expectations for this position include but are not limited to student advising and other related activities such as student recruiting, responding to inquiries from potential applicants, facilitating matriculation of newly accepted students, and managing the department’s electronic employment bulletin board. Additional service expectations may be developed as the need arises.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies or related field;
- Demonstrated successful asynchronous online teaching experience at the graduate level;
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, and student success;
- Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Earned doctorate in Library and Information Studies or equivalent
- Relevant professional work experience;
- Subject expertise aligned to the Valdosta State MLIS curriculum in one or more of the following:
- the Foundations of Library and Information Science
- Research Methods in LIS
- Youth Services
- Archives and Special Libraries
- Organization of Information
- Management of Libraries and Information Centers
- A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career stage;
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting;
- A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds.
