Description
Under the Supervision of the Instruction and Community Engagement Librarian, the Archival Assistant for Oral History Project will assist with the completion of a grant-funded oral history project, Building Representation of Underrepresented Alumni Voices in the Oral History Collection. The aim of this project is to connect with alumni who are members of minority racial and ethnic groups that are underrepresented within the records located in the archive.
Duties will include preparing for oral history interviews, including conducting research on interviewees and developing unique interview questions for each interview; conducting oral history interviews using archival-quality audio and video technology; transcribing; video processing; and developing metadata for each interview. The Archival Assistant may also partake in professional presentations alongside Librarians, as related to the Building Representation project and the completion of the grant.
- Conducts preliminary research on oral history interviewees.
- Assists in developing interview questions for oral history interviews.
- Conducts on-site, in person interviews with interviewees, utilizing audio and visual documentary equipment.
- Transcribes audio recordings from oral history interviews.
- Processes video files from oral history interviews, including assigning metadata and uploading to the library’s digital archive.
- Option to participate in professional presentations in relation to the completion of grant-related work.
Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree.
- Proficiency for learning new technologies in a short time span required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work with diverse student and adult populations.
- Ability to organize work, to assess priorities, and to work independently.
