Description:
The Head of Circulation and Reader Services oversees all circulation functions, interlibrary-loans and network transfers on an automated library system. Essential responsibilities include: managing all aspects of the daily operation of Circulation Services; supervising and directing library assistants, pages, volunteers, and other full-time staff members when working at circulation; assisting with ordering and weeding of library collections; overseeing the handling of overdue materials, including bills and collection notices; maintaining statistics and all records related to circulation and maintaining patron registration files; assisting in promoting library materials through creative book displays; acting as Book Club Kit coordinator; overseeing and maintaining the Library bulletin boards; providing a variety of general reference services to assist patrons in locating requested materials or sources of information; assisting patrons in the use of all Library resources and equipment including technology; providing coverage for Reference and Children’s desks as needed; assisting in program development including Library Book Clubs and the Adult Summer Reading Program; providing leadership in helping to achieve the goals of the Library including but not limited to, reading professional material, attending workshops and meetings, leading groups and serving as a professional and positive role model; assisting in managing Library social media accounts.
Schedule includes one night a week and every third Saturday.
Qualifications
- MLS from ALA accredited institution
- 3 years of library experience
- Knowledge of current and emerging library technology, trends, and practices
- Ability to teach and problem solve across a wide range of technologies and software including computers, office equipment, automated library equipment, audiovisual equipment, copiers, printers, scanners, and mobile devices
- Planning and supervisory skills including the ability to function well as part of a team that supports the overall goals of the library
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
