The User Experience Researcher designs and executes user research studies that support library services and digital products. Responsibilities carrying out studies including, but not limited to, usability tests, interviews, surveys, prototype tests and card sorts. The UX Researcher is responsible for analyzing outcomes and making recommendations through reports, presentations, and data visualizations. The UX Researcher reports to the Head of UX & Digital Accessibility and collaborates with the team at the User Research Center.
The UX Researcher will:
- Coordinate and lead library user experience research efforts.
- Select appropriate research methodologies depending on the research need. These may include, but aren’t limited to: ethnography, field studies, interviews.
- Propose new research based on existing library experience data from previous URC studies.
- Partner with staff stakeholders to refine research questions, gather study participants, and report findings.
- Recruit and schedule the right participants for research studies, depending on the research need.
- Analyze and synthesize findings from research and produce high-quality artifacts that can be reused by a variety of stakeholders.
- Transform findings into actionable insights and recommendations that staff can use to innovate in services and outreach efforts.
- Present findings from studies both at in-person presentations and written summaries.
- Evaluate and report on web accessibility of library systems and websites.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
- MLS or MS in related field
- Experience designing for library environments and/or higher education preferred.
- Experience with web accessibility tools such as WAVE or SiteImprove.
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript desired.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- The ability to work independently and collaborate with a team.
Working Conditions:
- The position will be based on our campus in Cambridge, MA., however there is the opportunity for a flexible or hybrid work model compliant with Harvard University remote work policies.
